I want to be in a production of "The King and I"! Who's with me!?

There's really nothing like falling up the stairs at 5:50 am, with one shoe on and the other in your hand as you despiratly try to tie on your scrubs and trip on the drawstring.  Gotta love mornings!

Roseview is going...ok.  I only have to keep reminding myself that every day I'm there is a text book.  Cleaning toilets isn't so bad then.

Today I was an laundry!  Which, for normal workplaces, means a break from human waste.  Unfortunately, not pour moi.  There are a two pointers which go with working in laundry, that were divulged to me today:  1) If the water turns brown, start the bleach cycle.  Then go yell at the nurses and healthcare aides for sending down pieces of poo with the laundry.  2)  If someone runs into the laundry room and asks where something is, or if we have more of something, or asks anything in general about what we're doing at the moment, the reply is always - no exception - "I don't care."  If Steven Harper came in and asked if we have an extra towel, the responce would be "If you wanted another towel, stop cutting funding so we can buy you one."

Other than that...Oh!  I got a postcard from Vikki in Greece!  The picture is so pretty, and I am so envious.  I must go on another trip sometime soon!  I love to travel.  Perhaps Kelowna and Vancouver, so I can see all the relatives and friends.

Payed tuition today (woo.), always on the last day, as is my tradition.  Hmm, not too much else in the boring life of Karyn.

Books read this summer

  • Earth's Children Series (5)
  • Lamb
  • Life of Pi
  • Spellbound
  • HP 7
  • HP 1-3 (working on re-reading the series, I'm on 4)
  • The Gunslinger (Working on the Dark Tower series as well)
  • Getting a Grip on Genetics
  • Roots (cuz it's good)
  • Fellowship of the Ring
  • Two Towers
  • Return of the King
  • I got halfway through the Simirilian before I bit myself out of boredom, so I gave up on that one.
  • Intergral Trees
  • Jungle Book
  • 1984
  • Matilda (I still enjoy Mr. Dahl's books and I'm not afraid to admit it)

All in all, it's been a summer of literary re-runs; well, for the most part.  I've yet to find a book I can sink into.  The most exciting one I read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but that was because I was anticipating it.  I might look into some more Gregory McGuire, as I enjoyed Wicked and Son of a Witch so much.  Any suggestions?

Hot oil + Kabes = Bad Managment Exposed

So, McDonalds is getting better.  I like working lobby shifts, cuz I run around the lobby and clear tables/clean trays/sweep/mop all day.  Which is better than standing still, or standing over fries, or screwing up someone's order even though they never said exactly what they wanted and will yell at me if I check.

Working "fries" means I stand over the fry vat, making sure to take the baskets in and out of the boiling oil when the machine beeps at me, while the people taking orders shout what they need for fries.  So, it sounds something like this "BEEEPmedium and two smalls BEEEP three large BEEEEP" and some stupid bitch mumbles what she needs so I can't hear her, and she gets all huffy when I didn't make her fries.  Guh.

So, fries.  Four hours of it the other day, right at lunch time.  The worst part of it was right a thte beginning, when I did something so incredibly stupid that I had to laugh at myself.  First hour of "being on fries" was to make hashbrowns for breakfast.  And the stupid effing hashbrowns like to fall our of their basket and into the frier.  So, I get to fish them out with tongs and shake them off and put them in with the rest of the well behaved hashbrowns.  In fishing one out, it hopped out of the tongs and back into the boiling oil, which splashed up at me and onto my hands.

Well, that hurt like a bitch.

I go tell my manager that I've been hurt; her responce: "...Huh.  That sucks.  Go run it under the tap for a few seconds then get back on fries, lunch'll be starting soon."

The rest of the day was tediously slow and rather painful, as the oil burn was made much worse by standing over hot oil for the next 3 and a half hours.  I had a wonderfully raised pus sack on my hand that I popped at home and that hurt for a while.

Stupid manager.  Now I'll have a scar.  She really should have put me somewhere else.

And that's the only thing I really have to say, other than I feel 100% better without Cory and why didn't I do this a year ago.

Hope you all are well!

Marks and McDonalds...

After nearly a month of worrying and stressing out about my marks due to some comments made by my vocal teacher, I finally have all my marks in.  And I passed!  Yay!!!  Even my vocal primary, with an 82!  GAH!

Still don't have my piano secondary in.  Beats me why.  I hope I did ok on that, but piano mark notwithstanding, my lowest mark this term was 82.  *faints with relief* My scholership is intacks and there's fun classes to look forward to next year: Composing, Form and Analysis, Baroque History, a better teacher for piano secondary annnnndddd...A NEW TEACHER FOR VOCAL PRIMARY!  Woo!  Provided either the new person or George will take me on.  Not going back to Telly.

I got a job at the Memorial McDonalds, and I'm strangly looking forward to working there.  At least it's a better atmosphere than the call center.  Training was held in the Cumberland McDonalds, and who should be there, but Renee!  So that was much less boring than it would have been.  She's working at the Cumberland McDonalds instead of mine.  The training videos were ridiculous and so stupid they were amusing.  I got my uniform and I hate it, but then went out and bought a wonderful skirt at Nyguard (sp?  I don't care) for 8 bucks.  Now I just have to find a shirt to go with it that doesn't make me look lumpy.  Treadmill, here I come!

So, life is going well.  I can't believe how much happier, less stressed and more content I am after breaking up with Cory.  Should have done that months ago and saved myself the hellish amount of trouble.

*contented sigh*

I miss you guys.
